It is a great idea, but good luck in finding a vet who will be willing to sign it for anything other then very sick animals. Most will not view dogs with say allergies as being sick and will continue to jab them and of course fill the pred Rx each month.

I've been told by two holisitic vets here locally that they would sign a form like that for me.

This is a subject that is very near and dear to my heart. I have a similar statement from my vet for multiple individuals. I am fortunate to live in a county where I can use titers or a letter such as this one to exempt dogs from the vaccination.

At this time, several states and/or the counties within them (state and county laws regarding rabies are often inconsistent I'm learning) do NOT allow exemptions based on a statement from a veterinarian and certainly not a titer. There are certain counties in California and Washington we would never move to because in order to be legal we would be forced to vaccinate a dog who not only has a statement from three different veterinarians but whose titer is well within the acceptable range AND nearly lost her life to that last vaccine.

I regret making the decision to vaccinate another dog going to a specific county in California for retirement because they did not accept titers. He had to be euthanized as a result of his reaction. I am not willing to put further dogs at risk.

At this time, we support the Rabies Challenge Fund in their efforts to both monitor and change existing rabies law as well as study the 5-7 year duration of the rabies vaccine. We're finding with our own dogs that titers are still within the accepted range at 7+ years on most (but not all) of our dogs.
