HR 5422 federal debarking ban

Not a single cosponsor. The group that pulled off the debark ban in Mass persuaded Ruppersberger to sponsor a federal version.

H.R.5422
Title: To authorize the Secretary of Agriculture to make grants for the prevention of cruelty to animals to States that have enacted laws prohibiting the devocalization of dogs and cats for purposes of convenience.
Sponsor: Rep Ruppersberger, C. A. Dutch [MD-2] (introduced 5/27/2010)
Cosponsors (None)
Latest Major Action: 6/18/2010 Referred to House subcommittee.
Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry.

The bill would award grants up to $1 million to states that ban devocalization for use in public education.

Dear Representative\ Senator xxxxxx,
I am writing to you to ask you to oppose the House bill H.R. 5422. The proposed bill interferes with the animal owner's decision process to determine what is needed to keep the animal safe, happy and healthy. The use of the procedure of concern is a matter for the individual animal owner to decide with the advice of the owner's veterninarian.

Here are a couple of links which will provide you with more information on the procedure:

http://www.naiaonline.org/body/articles/archives/debark_qna.htm

This bill is contrary to common sense and sets a precedence of interference in the decision process concerning veterinary and medical procedures.

I request that you vote against this bill.

Thank you,

Somehow, somewhere, someone has to advise the public about what's going on. I don't understand the AKC not taking more of a stand and crying out FOUL! Most of the public, celebrities and our legislators simply don't know what's going on and they certainly don't know the facts. We breeders are made out to be some kind of villains when in fact, we are the protectors of our breeds.
